The Amy E. Winans Center for Wellness provides wellness and personal growth initiatives for all students, with a particular focus on first-year students as they make the transition to independent college life.

Amy was a gifted teacher who taught in the Department of English from 1998 to 2015. She cared deeply about each student’s well-being and during the years prior to her death had been doing work in the field of contemplative pedagogy.

In recent years, Amy worked with students and colleagues to introduce Susquehanna to the concept of mindfulness. Thanks to her efforts, mindfulness techniques are being taught in current Perspectives classes to help first-year students manage anxiety and stress.

The center also offers mini-grants for registered student organizations to receive financial assistance for wellness-focused programs.

The center has the potential to change lives by giving students, faculty and staff the ability to enhance their well-being and bring additional positive energy to our campus.

The Amy E. Winans Center for Wellness was made possible by the generous support of Roger and Della Winans, Amy’s parents.
